i just came across this amazing feist performance from 2005, recorded for europe 2 tv. these are some of the most beautiful live versions of these songs that i have heard and thankfully, the video and audio quality of the recording is quite good. on top of that, leslie looks great and seems full of life.

i talked about how much i love feist’s cover of “sea lion woman” the other week and, well, i can’t believe i didn’t come across this video sooner. recorded in late 2005, a year and a half prior to the reminder’s release, this version of “sea lion woman” is a lot different from the one that made it onto the album. it features a drum track, vocal sampling, a prominent keyboard part, a variation on the “sea lion” melody you are used to, some lyrical variations… and it’s a bit longer. it’s really cool to see the transformation from this to the song on the reminder.

this next video is another one of my favorites, “mushaboom”. but before that, feist plays another reminder track, “1234″. and again, it’s a far cry from the album cut– the lyrics are a little different and it’s a much simpler arrangement. it’s refreshing to listen to, after the being beaten over the head repeatedly with the single (although i have yet to sour of it, despite the beatings).
