mp3: silver jews – i loved ‘em everyone [link expired]
this thursday i’m going to be seeing david berman of the silver jews in some capacity. i’m keeping my fingers crossed that he follows through with his previous suggestion and plays some music… i wouldn’t care if he only played covers of old country songs, as long as he plays something.
so on that note, the cover of the week this week is “i loved em everyone”, originally performed by tg sheppard (the good sheppard). the joos played this song a bunch of times on their 2006 tour, but this recording from the middle east in cambridge, ma, is the best i’ve heard.
these days tg is a pretty funny looking guy, but apparently he was a huge player in the country world back in the 70s and 80s. “i loved em everyone”, from his 1981 album i love em all, was one of a string of 15 consecutive top ten hits tg released in that period. i assume that’s gotta be the country charts we’re talking about, but still pretty impressive. i can’t help but laugh watching this video of tg on hee haw though, and he isn’t even wearing his usual cowboy hat.

if you’re a silver jews fan and in the dc area,be sure to come by the corcoran this thursday. berman will be there! if that’s not enough, he will be doing something, though i can’t say what for sure.
