cover of the week – foam hands
mp3: hello, blue roses – foam hands [link expired]
the cover of the week comes from the frog eyes/hello, blue roses split 7″ released last december. the a-side features rerecorded versions of two tracks from frog eyes last lp tears of the valedictorian while the b-side finds hello, blue roses performing a couple of covers. “foam hands” is the first of those covers and it’s an interesting one.
not interesting musically, so much as chronologically. see hello, blue roses take on “foam hands” was released three months ago but destroyer’s trouble in dreams, the album which the true “foam hands” calls home, won’t be invading our ears officially for another week. it’s kind of weird, but bejar seems to revel in the unexpected. anyway, it’s an ok cover. if you liked hello, blue roses debut than you certainly won’t mind it. if you’re a destroyer fan, you downloaded this the second you saw it and didn’t think twice. for those who are interested, the other hello, blue roses song is “wall of death”, a cover of the richard and linda thompson song.
head over to absolutely kosher to pick up the 7″. although it was limited to 500 copies and released three months ago…. it’s still on sale. the rerecorded version of “policy merchant”, “policy merchant 2: ah shit man”, really is the shit, man. check it out.
