of montreal are playing a sold out show at the 9:30 club tonight and it’s sure to be rife with tomfoolery. i don’t have tickets, but honestly i don’t really care. i just haven’t been able to get into skeletal lamping at all, though i’m not quite sure why… i’m tempted to say barnes has finally taken his new glam image a step too far for me — he’s certainly been pushing it.. did you see that recent rolling stone pic? — but that shouldn’t stop me from enjoying the music.
of course this new image evolved as the result of the new musical direction barnes set for the band on satanic panic and has continued to explore on each album since. skeletal lamping’s far removed from cherry peel which again, seems like an alright place to lay the blame… but i’ve gotta say i’ve enjoyed each album up to this point. in my opinion, hissing fauna is the best album of montreal has made since aldhils arboretum… so it’s odd that i can’t get comfortable with its direct descendant.
but i can’t. i just don’t like skeletal lamping at all. not sure what it is.
you might like it though. it releases october 21, with some really sweet packaging options. i love the packaging. can’t stand the album. oh well.
