mp3: thunder power – postscript …… [buy]
how does a little known band from nebraska hook up with a young singing/songwriting londoner for a split ep? nebraska has no ports through which to embark on cross-atlantic friend ships. based on thunder power’s three songs here, i’m guessing it was black magic or some other ill means that brought the two forces together… leeching away tiny pieces of their life force in the process. this is my explanation for the band’s half of friend ships which, but for kacynna tompsett’s voice, sound like the work of a different group than was heard last year on thunder power’s debut ep love yourself. the pop slathered all over their debut has been washed out, leaving behind something that feels more direct. tompsett’s voice has a smoky quality to it and the ruminant songs on this split, accented by accordion and slide guitar, seem much more habitable to smoke trails than those of the debut. it’s good stuff… so black magic or whatever, i hope thunder power keep messing with it… i like the direction this ship is sailing.
