destroyer — song for acuarela
mp3: destroyer – song for acuarela
i included this video in a post of several recent live destroyer clips but its good enough to bring it back again as an excuse to share the mp3. “song for acuarela” was in fact just that, a song written for the spanish indie label acuarela discos, who distributed a couple of destroyer’s albums in that country. acuarela means watercolor (or watercolour) in english and on several occasions the label has asked artists to write a song that references or is influenced by that method of painting. in 2004, destroyer was among the artists asked to contribute to the third volume of acuarela songs and dan submitted this acoustic pop gem, with its ending couplet “i took a picture / i was sick of motion / and wore her watercolours into the ocean”. in typical destroyer fashion, the song was of course later reworked for destroyer’s rubies into the irresistible “watercolours into the ocean”, with the average listener finding it there having no hint as to the origins of the title. “song for acuarela” was just one more swig for anyone playing the destroyer drinking game… and i wouldn’t have it any other way.
