today nintendo updated the nintendo channel and gave us a feature i’ve been waiting on since day 1… records. i am obsessed with records. records of what i have been doing in particular. my reverence of last.fm has been well documented and it is for this very reason… i would gladly pay a monthly fee just for someone to keep track of what i’ve been listening to. (they do other stuff too and paying’s optional. it really is great). last year i kept a spreadsheet tracking what i ate for dinner every night for 5-6 months… a project i am about to start up again, but this time tracking all meals, with pictures! it will be epic.

the wii has tracked which game you played each day and for how long since it launched. but i’ve always wanted it to take that next step, like last.fm, and compile that data into an overall picture of my playing habits. 3 years later, via an update to the nintendo channel, it’s here. it’s may be a bit simpler than i’d envisioned, but it does the job. i can now see, within a reasonable margin of error, the various means of entertainment by which i have wasted away my time… ranked by time played or times played. that margin of error is a result of the time based calculations…. which anyone who leaves their console on for extended periods of time is sure to find way higher than expected. i’m pretty into energy savings… so for me this has been less than a handful of times… not quite at a save point with real world human energy running desperately low, but too far along to give it up. the time tracker maxes out at 1 day though… so if you did happen to leave your wii on pause for a week, you’d only be charged with 23 hours 59 minutes.

anyway… cutting to the chase… top 10 by time played and times played. and it should be pointed out, there is one other primary player on the console. i did not personally play all 236 hours of animal crossing… though i wouldn’t put it past myself. interesting to note the times played list is dominated by casual titles/channels… most of which are absent from the other list. keep coming back for 5 minutes of fun.
