charlotte gainsbourg — irm

mp3: charlotte gainsbourg – irm
i’ve had to do a fair number of mri’s (or irm’s in french) myself, so this idea of the music the machine makes really speaks to me. the places i have done it have offered you headphones to listen to music while you’re in there, but i’ve always opted out, mainly feeling dissatisfied with their selection. being alone in there with nothing but your thoughts and the intense whirring of the machine… it’s a real experience. the thing is so loud i really doubt you’d be able to hear much of anything on those headphones anyway.
so… i’m a big fan of gainsbourg anyway… but i’m looking forward to hearing the rest of the album. she really captures a piece of the mri-experience in “irm”…. in the way the music, or the atmosphere it creates, sort of envelopes you… and of course, that pulsating guitar noise instantly brought back memories. it’s an interesting new sound for her and the concept is full of possibilities, if she runs with it throughout the album.
