in late september, alex (the idles) challenged all of his music making friends to a cover song throwdown. a slate of three songs was suggested, votes were cast and frank sinatra’s “witchcraft” was selected as the subject of the inaugural throwdown. halloween was set as the deadline for submissions and in the end, seven (including the challenger) arose to the challenge. you’ll find their covers below, listed in order of receipt.

I just listened to them all, and am definitely most in love with the version by artist Curtis Williams. I am a huge Sinatra fan, and never thought I would love another as much as Frank’s, but this version is amazing! It’s so haunting, so mysterious, and utterly delicious to listen to. I love the way it is still true to the song, but with it’s own seductively wicked flavor. I would love to hear more of his work!

There were 7 contestants and 12 others on the distribution list.
7 contestants x 3 votes each = 21 votes
12 others x 1 vote each = 12 votes
Total possible votes = 33
Assuming it’s OK to have other friends & family vote, did 63 other people really vote so far? The current vote count is 96. I know the poll has no way to limit multiple votes from a single person.

I’m not saying anyone does not deserve their votes. No musical judgment implied. Just saying the vote count looks inflated in total.
Let’s all pray this doesn’t result in a messy and expensive recount.

@cvo, looking at the records of how quickly a few votes for the same person came in, i would agree that the overall count may be a bit inflated. if we do another one of these, we should probably consider limiting repeat votes from the same computer.
that being said, a few hundred people actually did visit this page yesterday! so hopefully the vote count is fairly representative

Is the Throwdown a victim of sabotage?
I fear this may be an organized attempt at voting corruption. I can’t speculate as to what conglomerate or criminal syndicate may be behind this, or what their motives might be. I just hope – pray – the sanctity of political process has not been compromised.

I seriously doubt this page is a victim of any kind of voter fraud. Lets be honest here… its some folks doing cover songs. Its all in the sake of fun. If you want a true count from the artists themselves, then do it over email, not through this site.
